History
INFORMÁTICA 2009
More than 2 500 national and foreign delegates coming from 51 countries were present at Informática 2009, and it received more than 20 000 professional and business visitors in its exhibition fair. Its scientific program contained more than 90 magisterial conferences and high-level panels, from which eight presentations were of a central category, as they were transverse themes of a high impact.

In that edition the event was honored to count on a strong presence from the governmental sector as well as from the international organizations, among them 5 Ministers of the Sector, and the General Secretaries of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and of the Programa Iberoamericano de Ciencia y Tecnología para el Desarrollo (CYTED).

Fourteen institutions with a Diamond category, 10 with Gold and 5 with Silver categories respectively sponsored the event. The ones who reached the Diamond categories were Cantv, Haier, Huawei, Potevio, Intecna, Telecom Italia, France Telecom, LG, ETECSA, COPEXTEL, UCI, GE, GKT and CUJAE.

On the last day of the event, the 14th edition of the International Informatics Fair and Convention was officially announced to take place on February 7th - 13th, 2009.

INFORMÁTICA 2007
During the exchange of knowledge and ideas that characterized Informática 2007, 1074 research papers, masterful lectures, presentations, round-table conferences and panel discussions were presented in the presence of 1630 delegates from 46 countries representing 6 international organizations. This edition had the largest international attendance ever.

At the meeting 42 personalities took part, guests from 19 countries and 6 United Nations organizations system. Cuba denounced the impact of the imperialist blockade on our sector and the attacks on our radio-electric system.

In his speech, the Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez, Minister of the Informatics and Communications, made a reflection on the technological sovereignty in direct line with the Management of Information Technologies and Communications (ICT).

A total of 29 enterprises of the sector presented their projects, products and services at Havana´s Palace of Conventions. The ones from China, Viet Nam and Venezuela stood out.

The Cuban exhibition stand displayed the results of the Society Informatization Strategy regarding the main achievements in the fields of health, education, culture, science and in providing computing programs for the different population groups.

INFORMÁTICA 2004, 10th edition counted with 704 Cubans and 303 foreigners what made up a total of 1007 participants.

It was carried out a Special Rememorative Postal Cancellation, in which took part personalities such as the Canadian philosopher and artist Hervé Fisher, president of the International Federation of Multimedia Associations who presented his book, published in Cuba for the occasion, entitled "Choque Digital", Mr. Fisher monopolized the attention of all, and he made the audience meditate with his humanist reflections about the use of the New Technologies for human improvement and not as an instrument whose irrational and wild use can lead to its self-destruction.

The followers of the Free Software, counted with the presence of the young Brazilian Marcelo Tossati, considered one of the world experts in the topic in spite of being only 21 years old, who was designated by the own creator of the Linux System, Linus Torval, as one of the keepers of the last version of this system.


On the other hand the First Bioinformatics Congress, had the Masterful Conference read by PhD. Agustín Lage, Director of the Molecular Immunology Institute, about computer science's applications in biotechnical medical researches, which are indispensable for the development of these branches.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Amadouni Touré director of development of the International Telecommunications Union, affirmed that Informática 2004, is not a meeting more, but an evidence of the efforts which are made in the world to use new technologies to achieve development.

Cuba showed what can be done in the field of the new technologies, with a social, rational, and organized use of those resources. The Minister of Informatics and Communication, engineer Ignacio González Planas, highlighted that in the country there are already more than 280 000 computers, more than 480 000 e-mail users, and more than 98 000 with access to Internet. For that reason the centers of greater social significance such as universities, scientific institutions, schools and mail offices are prioritized. All that is part of the massive introduction of the new technologies, what will also include a wide development of mobile telephony.

He also emphasized on the efforts made in the extension of Computer Clubs for the youth, of which already exist 600 in the whole country. The expansion and modernization of telecommunications with the launching of the national optic fiber, as well as the development of the Cuban Software Industry which has its basic pillar in the University of Information Sciences.

In the exhibit rooms of Palacio de las Convenciones was showed a modest sample of what is made by Cuban companies of Software: Telemedicine, Bioinformatics, Systems, Health equipments and Attention to disabled people using new technologies, educational computer science, as well as teleformation, and the use of solar panels to take the new technologies to remote places.

INFORMÁTICA 2003, Ninth Edition.
For the first time in a year 700 Cuban and 118 foreigners took part in eleven events: Ninth International Congress of Informatics in Education, IV International Congress of Medical Informatics, 2003 International Seminar on Telecommunications and beyond, first International workshop on E-commerce, Second Iberoamerican Workshop of Informatics in Cattle and Agriculture, Workshop on Auditing Information and Communication Technologies, International Workshop on Enterprise Management Software, First International workshop Quality (ICT), International Workshop on Industrial systems Computerized Control: Theory and Applicability, Iberoamerican Meeting of Informatics and systems Students, ENECIS 2003, towards the World Summit on Information Society.

INFORMÁTICA 2002, Eighth Edition. 722 Cuban and 390 foreigners were registered.
The 13 events: 1st International Congress of Technologies and Multimedia Contents in Digital Environments, 5th International Congress of Informatics in Culture, 4th International Congress of Law and Informatics, Iberoamerican workshop: Government Online, 2nd International Congress on Geomatics; 2002, 8th International Congress on Informatics in Education, international Colloquium: Informatics and Youth, Symposium on Mobile Telecommunication, New Technologies in Telecommunication and Electronic Techniques, Latin American and Caribbean Symposium: Education, Science, and Culture in the Information Society, Telework Symposium, a click away, 7th Iberoamerican seminar of Information and Communication Technology Security.

INFORMÁTICA 2000
Foreign and national participation for the seventh edition of INFORMÁTICA 2000 went beyond the historical record. A number of 1870 delegates, 555 participants from 45 foreign countries and relevant international entities, and 1315 Cubans took part in the event. About 72 firms from 17 foreign countries and 132 national ones covered an area of 2958 m2.

A well balanced scientific program developed in round tables, panels, and conferences, were fully appreciated by the participants. Presentations in digital format were exposed for the fist time, what enabled a better use of the facilities in using technology for the presentation of scientific works. About 497 scientific works were presented in the event.

On this occasion 16 events were called: 7th International Congress of New Technologies and Informatics Applications, 7th International Congress of Informatics in Education, 3rd Ibero-American Congress of Multimedia and Communication Technologies, 3rd Medical Informatics Seminar, 2nd International Seminar on Geomatics, 4th International Congress of Informatics in Culture, Symposium: Informatics in Enterprise Management, 3rd International Conference on control of Industrial systems, 3rd International Conference of Informatics and Law, 5th Iberoamerican Seminar on Informatics Viruses Protection and Information Technology Security, 2nd Seminar: Hydraulic Engineering Informatics, Environmental Sanity and Hydro-energy, The Impact of Internet on Developing Countries, Iberoamerican Meeting of Informatics and Systems Students, Colloquium: Informatics and Youth, Seminar on New Information Technologies, European Union and Latin American Ties, Collateral Events that were organized within Informática 2000 and sponsored by TAPLINK Consortium, and the International Fair of Informatics, Industrial automation and Communications.

In INFORMÁTICA 1998, besides the debates carried out on scientific aspects, topics like strategy and politics related to the informatics development in the Latin-American area were also discussed.

This edition was sponsored by the Informatics National Commission, which was composed by more than 60 institutions, including Investigation and Development Centers, Universities and Enterprises among the most outstanding centers in the activity, and having also the cosponsoring of the European Commission, the UNESCO, CYTED, AEMM, the Ibero-American Federation of Law and Informatics Associations (IFLIA), Federación Iberoamericana de Asociaciones de Derecho e Informática FIADI, ALASI, etc., among other organisms and personalities.

The 11 events celebrated were: 6th International Congress of New Technologies and Informatics Applications, 6th International Congress of Informatics in Education, 6th International Meeting of Informatics Organizations, 4th Ibero-American Seminar about Protection against Informatics Viruses and Information Technologies Security, the International Conference of Law and Informatics of Havana, 2nd Ibero-American Congress of Multimedia and Communication Technologies, 2nd International Seminar of Informatics at Tourism Service, International Conference about the Control of Industrial Systems, 2nd International Seminar of Audit and Control of Information Systems, International Seminar of Geomatics, International Seminar about the impact of Internet on the Software Industry.

INFORMÁTICA 1996, in its fifth edition, was attended by over 450 foreign delegates from 39 nations and over 900 Cuban delegates. There were exhibitions from 216 firms, being 92 of them of foreign origin.

The events celebrated during the conference were the following ones: The Congress on Informatics and Law, the Conference about the Automatic Control for Energy Saving, the New Informatics Technology Congress, the Congress of Informatics in Culture, the Seminar about Protection against Informatics Viruses and Information Technologies Security, the Seminar of Informatics Audit and the Ibero-American Informatics Meeting.

INFORMÁTICA 1994 was attended by more than 360 foreign delegates from 39 countries and more than 900 Cuban ones. At the Fair, expositors from 38 foreign firms belonging to 7 countries took part as well as 69 Cuban entities.

The Convention included the Informatics Seminar on Agriculture and Livestock, The IFIP Conference, The Congress of Informatics on Education, the Guidance towards Objects Seminar, the Conference about the Automatic Control for Energy Saving, the New Informatics Technology Congress, the Symposium of Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering on Computing, the Symposium about Informatics on the Staff Management and Social Security, the Congress of Informatics in Culture, the CAD/CAD Seminar, the Seminar about Protection against Informatics Viruses, the Congress of Lawful (Legal) Informatics, the Telematics Seminar and the Ibero-American Informatics Meeting.

Besides being a conference of 14 events taking place at the Convention Palace, there were other conferences and seminars taking place in other schools and scientific centers in Havana City, addressed to some other specialists interested on the topics, achieving, in this way, a bigger participation of national delegates.

INFORMÁTICA 1992 had a different connotation, as it was not held as a single event but actually as an assortment of independent technical conferences, congresses, workshops, and seminars, each with its own characteristic but all grouped in a unique convention.

More than 300 foreign delegates from 23 countries and more than 800 delegates presented an amount of 597 papers. There were 41 masterly lectures and also 22 themes were additionally debated in round tables and panels. The trade show had exhibits from 39 foreign firms from 10 different countries as well as 82 Cuban firms.

Within the convention there were held seminars and congresses dealing with Artificial Intelligence, automatic control, informatics in education, CAD/CAM, Judicial informactics, protection against viruses Informatics at the service of Tourism; there were workshops on Microelectronics, Telematics, Informatics at the service of culture and also the Havana Latin American Meeting of Informatics and the International Congress of Informatics.

INFORMÁTICA 1990
Two years after this, in 1990, the second version of this international event was held, Informática 1990, where 813 cuban delegates and 260 foreigners from 28 countries participated. Around 625 papers were presented out of which 124 belonged to foreign specialists.

During that scientific forum, some other technical conferences took place: the international conferences on Informatics, Health Informatics, General Software Problems, the XII Latin American meeting of Informatics, and a workshop on Artificial Intelligence.

There were exhibits from 46 firms from 8 countries in the International room of informatics, official scenario for the Congress presentations.

INFORMÁTICA 1988
The first edition of the Havana Convention and International Fair INFORMATICA was held in 1988 as an initiative of IBI (Oficina Intergubernamental de Informática) Intergovernmental Office of Informatics, and the Iberoamerican institutions, universities and research centres.

More than 180 foreign delegates attended Informática 1988, including the presenters who came from 28 different countries. The Cuban delegation was large with 878 delegates and 166 presenters.

In convention, international conferences on Informatics, Health Informatics, and General Software Problems were held. The XII Latin-American Meeting of Informatics and Communication users and a trade show, plus the International Fair of Informatics were also held during the same time.
