Research for innovative solutions in the area of energy efficiency and sustainability of power generation with the use of alternative energy sources that promote the reduction of aggressive impact to the environment.

Exploitation and / or innovation for control and regulation of machines and electrical systems, design and operation of electrical machines, management of energy efficiency in power systems, distributed generation and renewable energy and advanced technologies in electricity generation.

Integration of telecommunications, electronics and informatics for the sake of society
Development, operation and implementation of new technologies for access and transport in telecommunications networks , trends for fix and mobile wireless technologies, their security administration, and Internet and telematic services .
Electronic and power systems, electronic control, microelectronics, sensors and circuits. Software engineering, distributed systems, management of databases and cloud computing.

Virtualization of university processes
Development and experiences in the use of virtual classrooms, virtual resource centers, software and the teaching of virtuality itself within the educational component, informatics on university extension work. Pedagogical models for distance education. Experiences from university extension and computerization, administrative management of the university intranet, integration of processes from the virtual university and the impact of professional training in the use of technology.

Socialization of the results of investigations with the use of ICT in the substantive processes of universities, engineering education, the use of Web 2.0 tools in professional training and the use of free software in university teaching.

ICT and extreme natural events
Development, operation and/or innovation of ICT contribution to reduce vulnerabilities and thus to minimize the possibility of disasters. Early warning systems for monitoring natural events that include measurements of geophysical, hydrological and climatological parameters. Geographic Information Systems (GIS), database management, web applications and other tools for primary data processing.
Models and tools for forecasting, risk estimation and design of structures resistant to natural hazards.
