Pedro Yobanis Piñero Pérez, Executive Director of IADES and Vice President of the 2nd International Symposium on Artificial Intelligence and Robotics explained in detail how this second symposium is being prepared and will be developed in the Puntos Cardinales magazine conducted by journalist Yasmina Iglesias Nuevo.

    - What motivated the organization of this second edition of the symposium and what learning did the first one leave?

"In essence, artificial intelligence is changing the way the world moves, it is transforming income generation, it is transforming health, it is transforming education, it is transforming behavior in social networks, politics and therefore it is an important element that must be treated in all events, in communities. Cuba also has an interest in establishing an international and regional prestige in this area and taking advantage of Cuban capital in the development of science and computing.”

And the first edition, what experience did it provide?

“... the first edition of this event, last year there was an edition of this event and also before there had also been other other scenarios of artificial intelligence application in computing and all these scenarios opened the presence of foreign specialists, professionals in Cuba talking about this topic and the development of the country itself.”

- What will be the structural thematic guidelines of the symposium for 2026?

“... in 2026, the fundamental theme will be related to all the topics of generative artificial intelligence and the application of these technologies in data-driven decision-making, also in the ethical use of artificial intelligence, responsible artificial intelligence, explanatory artificial intelligence and in general the application of artificial intelligence is one of the main ones in the country, in health, in sports, in tourism, in agriculture, in energy, which are fundamental elements for our country.”

- What kind of national and international participation is expected and how will be the selection of the experiences that will be presented?

“...the academic committee of this event is the widest of all, it is formed by practically all the universities, the University of Oriente, the University of Holguín, Camagüey, the Central University of Las Villas, the CUJAE, the University of Havana, the UCI, there are also many companies from the private sector, such as the company DATIS and private companies, such as IADES, Avangenio, Datalisoft, and as you can see it is a wide event, where all the professional researchers working on this topic in Cuba will be represented.

It is intended that numerous foreign guests will participate, mainly from Russia, Ecuador, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and of course Cuba, the Dominican Republic, who will also share us with us.”

- What spaces does the event contemplate for the exchange between academia, industry, entrepreneurship and public policies?

“In this event the three fundamental axes are handled, there is a fundamental working group associated with entrepreneurship, as can be seen from the organization of the event; there are private companies, from the business sector, all united in a single objective and there is a strong moment of application of these technologies in society.

Secondly, there is also a high scientific level, most of the publications of this event will be published in high impact journals, in Scopus and Web of Science, of high international recognition and also in general it is identified that this event will also be a space where a little bit of the digital transformation and the strategy, the policy of Cuba in the adoption of artificial intelligence will be discussed”.

- How do you feel that this symposium can contribute to positioning Cuba on this artificial intelligence and robotics development map as well?

“...a space where all these foreign colleagues from Russia, Latin America participate, with a strong presence even since the coordination process with the IADES Alliance, with many foreigners, has helped or helps to make it clear that this topic is being worked on in Cuba, in fact one of the main projects that will be worked on in this project is the Cuban Cecilia artificial intelligence model, which the University of Havana recently produced in collaboration with the Spanish University and are projects that help the application of these technologies in the society of the IADES Alliance, of Avangenio and the entire Cuban business sector.”

- Is there any deadline or limit for the delivery of papers?

“Yes, this event has its deadline for submission of papers on 14 November 2025, it is an event where the memoirs will be published in high impact journals, even on the same dates of the event and therefore the papers must be delivered before November 14, there is a strong work of many colleagues, many commissions, a lot of enthusiasm in the participation”.

Thanks a lot!
