Jian Song received a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in electrical engineering from the Department of Electronic Engineering of Tsinghua University, and a doctorate degree in electrical engineering from North Carolina State University. He is currently an associate professor and doctoral supervisor of Tsinghua University Shenzhen International Graduate School, and his work resume is as follows:

Dr. Song Jian's main research areas include: power line communication technology, visible light communication, digital broadcasting and network convergence, etc. He has led the team to participate in the formulation of a number of national standards for visible light communication and positioning. He has published more than 300 academic papers. His paper won the 2015 Scott Helt Award, the best paper award in IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting. The academic monograph "Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting-Technology and Systems" is published by Wiley & Sons as an IEEE ComSoc communication book series; The book "Visible Light Communication: Networking" was published by the People's Posts and Telecommunications Publishing House and reprinted within one year. He holds more than 80 Chinese patents and 2 U.S. patents.

He won the first prize of China Science and Technology Progress Award as the main finisher, is the leader of the innovation team in key areas of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and was selected as a leading talent in the National High-level Talent Special Support Program. He also won the 2022 and 2019 Geneva International Invention Gold Medal, the 2021 ITU WSIS Champion Award, the 2017 IEEE ComSoc TC-PLC Outstanding Contribution Award, the 2017 Second Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education, and the 2015 Second Prize of Innovative Technology of the Chinese Optical Engineering Society.

Dr. Song is a Fellow of IEEE and IET, and a Fellow of the Chinese Institute of Electronics and the China Institute of Communications. He is currently the associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting. Editor-in-Chief, IEEE Open Access for BTS (Broadcasting Technology Society); Member of IEEE BTS AdCom (Management Committee) and Chairman of BTS Beijing Chapter. Founding Editor-in-Chief of Intelligent and Converged Networks, an ITU-Tsinghua University collaborative academic journal, Vice-Chair of Working Group 6A and Chair of the Multimedia and Audio Broadcasting Sub-Working Group, and former Founding Editor-in-Chief of the ITU academic journal ICT Discoveries.
