Population mobility and telephone data
Abstract:
The results obtained from the analysis of Location Area Updates records left by cell phones in their interaction with antennas are presented. Although the position of the antennas is a very imprecise indicator of the position of a cell phone, the analysis of large volumes of data allows a statistical estimation of population mobility patterns. These mobility models allow understanding the dynamics of flows within the city (Havana) that have value for transportation modeling, epidemiology and urban planning, for example. The results that have already been applied and their projections will be discussed.
