19th International Fair #Informática2024, a look at the ICT landscape in #Cuba

The 19th International Fair Informática 2024 was inaugurated on Tuesday at the Pabexpo fairgrounds with the presence of Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, and Manuel Marrero Cruz, member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister of the Republic.

Ariadne Plasencia Castro, president of the IT and Communications Business Group (GEIC) and executive secretary of the event, said that this exhibition section demonstrates the interest of Cuba in the development of information and communications technologies (ICT) and the willingness of professionals in the sector for the growth of Cuban society.

Plasencia Castro considered that Informática, both in the Convention and in the Fair, allows the promotion of Cuba’s image as a nation in conditions and with a wide capacity for the development of ICTs for the improvement of the citizenship.

The GEIC president said that the event is a space for the exchange of parties interested in the progress of these technologies that support the digital transformation process of several nations.   In the Fair, she said, there are some 49 stands, of which 15 belong to foreign companies from a dozen countries, while from Cuba there are state entities and new economic actors linked to the generation of goods, services and information technology solutions.

For Plasencia Castro, the Informatics Fair 2024 is a scenario where universities and the Cuba Stand also converge, showing the ICT panorama in the country.

After the ribbon cutting with which the 19th International Fair Informática was officially inaugurated, Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and Marrero Cruz toured several exhibition points including those of the companies Xetid, Copextel, Softel, Cuban Telecommunications Company S.A, Haitech and the University of Computer Science.

He was accompanied by Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic, and Mayra Arevich Marín, Minister of Communications.Informática 2024, an event organized by the Ministry of Communications, GEIC and the Union of Cuban Computer Scientists, will end on March 22.
